He's the hyperactive little cousin of the rap world. The troublemaker in the classroom, the rat in the sewer. And yet I await every music drop like he's a Billie Eilish with face tattoos and a rainbow grill. His newest project, "TattleTales," is his second studio album since 2018's "DUMMY BOY." He's fresh out of prison and he's got something to say, or more accurately, scream. I have a complicated relationship with Tekashi 6ix9ine's music because the music nerd in me yells that it's irredeemable trash, while the music lover in me is addicted to the high energy, brainless fun. This album does include two of my favorite singles to come from the artist: "GOOBA" and "TROLLZ (with Nicki Minaj)." Besides those two songs, my favorite track is "TUTU" because it's, like I said, brainless fun. Other than that, there's really nothing worth replaying here. The album sports two features from Akon, including the remix of "Locked Up" off his 2004 album "Trouble" that kicks off this record. How 6ix9ine gets respected artists like Akon, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, and Young Thug to collaborate with him, I'll never know. The latin-infused tracks of this album are lame, but I respect him for branching out, I guess. This album shows 6ix9ine diverging lyrically, if just a little, from his usual drivel, rapping about his daughter, his time served, and his break from the gang.

The only thing that saves this album is his delivery. The instrumentals aren't the usual caliber that I find in 6ix9ine's music, though his lyrics on some of the tracks have improved while others are garbage. This is a downgrade from his rather energetic and explosive first album, as 6ix9ine has begun to lose his hold on the minds and ears of trap listeners. I wonder, can he come back from this?
