You can't deny Kanye West's ability to dominate the public eye. Not only is he undisputedly one of the greats in contemporary hip-hop and married to celebrity Kim Kardashian, but he has recently been making headlines for his questionable presidential candidacy and twitter rants. Another thing Kanye is known for is making promises to drop music that are never fulfilled. This was not the case for this surprise drop. "Nah Nah Nah" is the second single to come from Kanye in 2020 after "Wash Us In The Blood" with Travis Scott.

Lyrically this track is all over the place. Kanye seems to be avoiding making a clear phrase on really anything including the out of place Star Wars reference. He does mention his presidential candidacy and its validity, his war on the music industry and fake news, but nothing new or really exciting is accomplished in either the content or his flow. Frankly, I think the "nah nahs" are below Kanye's level, and they are the basis of the entire chorus. Same with the instrumental; it is too simple, too derivative to be something that I would think Kanye could produce. Flutes and woodwinds have recently caught popularity in hip-hop instrumentals ("BOP," "Out West," "Mask Off" and more) and I think it's unlike Kanye to be chasing trends rather than making them. Plus the melody just jumps octaves to bring more energy which is the oldest trick in all of music. At least the bass line brings a little more complexity but even then it is nothing really special. If the entire song was the bridge, I think it would have been much better alongside the eerie vocal chorus in the background at the end. All that said, I do think the album art is cool for an October drop. Also, maybe DaBaby can bring some flavor to this otherwise bland track on the upcoming remix, as we all know he is great at changing things up. I can't believe I'm putting my faith in DaBaby to save a Kanye song.

This track is very disappointing coming from an artist who has such undeniable talent, skill an experience. It does make you wonder, is Kanye losing his touch?
