International Pick: Sombrou Dúvida by Boogarins

In rough English, "Shadowed Doubt" is the fourth studio album of Brazilian band Boogarins, released in 2019. A psychedelic rock band who records in their native Portuguese, the group accomplished much in this ten song project. Highlights include the strong intro "As Chances," "Invenção," and "Dislexia ou Transe." Some of the tracks can get a little spacey and disorganized, and I tend to like the ones that remain focused. "Nós" is a little too much for me, and borders on unpalatable. Overall, the project spans easy-going zen tracks and hook-heavy numbers rather well. The production is excellent, bridging alternative synths and standard four-piece rock. Sometimes they go too far, but this is a project with music that is easy to get lost in, and frontman Dinho Almeida's voice is mesmerizing. Of course, I can't understand a word he's saying though. Certainly containing some songs to add to your alternative playlist, "Sombrou Dúvida" is chill and heavy all at once.
