J. Cole's first real solo work in 2020 (not including "Snow On Tha Bluff," a short little single in relation to drama with rapper Noname) and the first look we get at his upcoming album "The Fall Off" shows Cole is ready to take back his throne. He doesn't pull punches through the lyrics of the two songs "The Climb Back" and "Lion King On Ice," plus he has production credits on both tracks. Instrumentally they're really well rounded, incorporating samples and a lot of little things in the background to frame his vocals perfectly which shows a level of intricacy that I think was missing from 2018's KOD. One negative is the whiny vocal cut on "Lion King On Ice" gets annoying after a while, and it's mixed far too loud. As far as his rapping is concerned, it's as impressive as it always is. He switches up flows left and right, flips colloquialisms fluently, disses enemies and false friends, and speaks on the state of America all with a professionalism and confidence that comes with being at the top and deserving it.

J.Cole was one of the new-school artists that really led me to love lyrical rap, and I can't stop playing these songs On Repeat as I impatiently await "The Fall Off." Are we living in a Cole world?
